  Join grassroots community and local partners as we come together to honor and celebrate the resiliency of the Takaape' Waashut (Southern California Black Walnut Tree in the Tongva language) with plant adoptions, a bird walk, community bike ride, hiking, teach ins, art, live music, food and more!! Free and open to the public

  Black Walnut Day is an annual gathering held
  during harvest season to honor the SoCal Black Walnut as a resilient member of our Indigenous, Latine, Chicanx, migrant and BIPOC community. Black Walnut Day was born out of the struggle against a multi-million dollar development that would have destroyed 110 Black Walnut trees and habitat and
  threaten 900 nearby tenants with economic
  displacement. Reclaiming this Land has led
  to regenerating relationships with the land
  and Peoples across Northeast Los Angeles.

    El Día del Nogal Negro es una reunión anual que se celebra durante la temporada de cosecha para honrar al Nogal Negro del Sur de California como un miembro resiliente de nuestra comunidad Indígena, latine, chicanx, migrante y BIPOC (personas negras, indígenas y de color). El Día del Nogal Negro surgió de la lucha contra un proyecto urbanístico multimillonario que habría destruido 110 nogales negros y su hábitat, y que habría puesto en peligro a 900 inquilinos de la zona con su desplazamiento económico. La recuperación de esta tierra ha propiciado
    la regeneración de las relaciones con la tierra y con las comunidades del noreste de Los Ángeles.
